The Ponca City Herb Festival is held the first Saturday of June each year and is hosted by the Sage, Rosemary and Thyme Garden Club. Centrally located in Ponca City, the festival is set in the Cann Memorial Botanical Gardens – a 10-acre showcase of color, texture, fragrance and landscape architectural beauty. The Cann Gardens represent one of Ponca City’s finest public venues with quiet walkways, water features, and formal plantings intertwined among a variety of ornamental plants, shrubs and trees. A gift from Elsie Cann Brown, daughter of L.A. and Mary Cann in 1975, the gardens were renovated in 1977 and have become a focal point of horticultural beauty ever since. The Herb Festival fits quaintly alongside the lamp post-lined brick sidewalk that meanders throughout the park. There, more than 100 vendors from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Arkansas bring their plants, primitive birdhouses, yard and garden ornaments, quilts, herbal vinegars and oils, handmade baskets, candles, soaps, furniture, stoneware and much more. As visitors from Ponca City and many surrounding communities – many arriving in tour buses – peruse the vendor booths, a number of seminars are scheduled throughout the day for those wanting to know more about herbs, horticulture and outdoor design. Expect sessions on growing and using herbs, garden recipes, wildflowers, herbal teas and bath products, roses and landscaping. Providing one of Ponca City’s most well-attended and well-organized functions of the year, Sage Rosemary and Thyme Garden Club brings a heightened awareness of all of Ponca City’s gardens and raises funds for their continuation and development. MISSION STATEMENT of THE PONCA CITY HERB FESTIVAL, INC. Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme Garden Club hosts this annual event to: • Promote the joys of gardening. • Raise funds to enhance and enrich the public gardens in the Ponca City area. • Educate the public concerning various aspects of herb gardening and related subjects. • To increase awareness of the multitude of uses of herbs and herbal products.
